Itineraries of the collective memory
I. SEKEM This site lying on the slopes of two hills is in the village of Kha’feu. It is made up of vegetation where tall grass alternates with trees. Offerings are placed on piles of stones in a clearing. This place was the falling back position of Baham warriors during the campaign against the Bayangam. The notable meukam dzu souo’ was appointed principal officiating priest and administrator of this sanctuary by the first king. This mission continues to be carried out by his descendant of the same name. II. KANG-MALI
Situated in the village of Gweugwa, it is a waterfall of a height of about 15 m and is surrounded by a forest with trees intertwined with creepers. The water of this waterfall is believed to be effective in treating stuttering in children. The current officiating priest is the notable defeu Tchuenbou. III. FOVU It is in the village of Bou’kue. It is a vast area made up of enormous rocks, a wooded vegetation and an underground river. A grotto represents the important place here. It can hold about fifty people. It was here that the very first king of Baham was enthroned. IV – MLANG – BEM
Situated between the villages of Ho and Pi, it is a rocky landscape ending in a valley where a stream flows. This place is believed to have been taken from the Bapa by the Baham after a battle. It was placed by the king Kamdem Guemdjo called Kamdem II under the supervision of the notable Tadye Kamdem.
VI. TOUOK-MSI
Located in the heart of the village of Kha, this site is made up of rocks under which an underground river flows which gushes forth in places. This place is the nursery where the medicinal plants are kept in the kingdom. VII. LIEUGNE
This is the place where it is believed that the god of the traveller lives. Legend has it that this god protects all those who cross Baham from all dangers. The Baham and non-Baham populations thus come to do sacrifices here. This place straddles the villages of Pou’mdze and La’gweu. It is made up of a grotto, a forest-tunnel and sand. It is also the place where formerly the kings of Baham and the surrounding kingdoms would meet.
